The Number 23

Lets be honest. Any idiot can be a bouncer. That's why so many of them are idiots. It's a pretty easy job really. Make sure everyone who gets in is old enough to be there, break up fights (but hopefully prevent them from happening in the first place), and make sure you don't exceed the number of people permitted by the fire marshall.

Its all really simple. The hardest one for people to understand is capacity. See, the people outside smoking count as people in the bar. Because they're going right back in. So there's always some genius at the front of the line going "Hey, three people came out, you can let three people in"

Any idiot can be a bouncer, but the one thing we can all do is count. And we even get little clickers just in case we can't count. Telling the bouncer how many people just left does not help you get in. It usually earns you a slightly longer wait. In some cases a much longer wait. To be honest, I don't care, I'm standing outside in the cold all night either way. If there's a line, we're busy, it doesn't matter to me if you go in, because there's already people inside standing in line.
