Do you drug test at this job? |
He went through the spiel again and tried to walk past me again. So I walked him back away from the door. "I tell you what. I'll go get the manager, he'll come up and escort you in, hows that?"
"Oh its ok man, I'll just go in"
"Who you here to see again?"
"The manager" he says. He's really jumpy, looked like he might be a crack head.
"Yeah, you said that, what's his name?" I asked
"Oh, uh Darren or Dave or something like that...its for a dishwasher I think"
"So you're here for an interview at 12:30 at night on a Saturday and you don't know the name of the person you're interviewing with or what the job is?"
You could see the wheels turning. Well...one wheel. Running on hamster power.
"Well, yeah, it's the manager"
"Tell you what sport, you wait right here, as soon as he comes by I'll flag him down"
I left him with the two door guys. I went back inside and hung out for a bit. I went back out. The kid was gone. I wandered out to look. He was down the side walk aways by the line. He called up to me.
"Hey man, don't worry about it, I'll just do the interview another time" and went to the back of the line.
Good idea.
A half hour later he ended up at the front of the line. Some cops where there and started talking to him. Suddenly he just threw his hands up and left. I was watching this from the inside so I didn't hear any of it. Weird, but whatever, glad he's gone.
After an hour the line died down. Some guy showed up and said "Hey, is there no more line?"
Normally I would figure the lack of people standing in a line would be the obvious answer to that question, but what do I know.
"Nope"
Buddy flips out his phone, dials, waits and says, yeah, there's no more line. About ten seconds later Crack Head from earlier comes walking around the corner. He gives the guy with the phone a nod and walks up. I hold him up at the door and ask for ID. I don't know who's ID he had, but it sure as hell wasn't his. I mean, whoever it was wasn't even RELATED to him. I actually laughed outloud.
"Dude, this doensn't look anything like you!"
"Uh, yeah it does" he said.
"I can't let you in with this man, have a nice night"
He snatched the card from me and walked off into the night.
I'll have to ask the boss if he had a crackhead lined up for an interview last night. Maybe I screwed up?
